You won't lose documents or programs since RAM (Random Access Memory) is temporary memory. Every time you shut down your computer everything on it gets deleted. What you will lose is speed on your computer. And you also have to make sure that the computer with 256MB RAM has a space for additional RAM.

Nothing will happen to your documents or your programs or anything that's actually installed on your computer because they're installed on your hard drive not your memory. The amount of memory dictates how quickly your computer can access different things, the higher amount the quicker it allows it to do so. All that will happen is the computer you're pulling ram from will slow down a bit and the other one will be a bit faster, that's it.

No, ram is only used to store things temporarily while the computer is running; all of your documents are actually stored on your hard drive. As long as your motherboard supports the type of ram you're trying to install you shouldn't have a problem.

No documents, files or programs would be erased. The PC with the reduced RAM may slow down, especially if it uses Win XP.

NOOOOOOOOOO... documents, programs and files r stored on ur hard drive and not on ur rams. Anything stored on the ram is temporary and whenever u turn off ur computer everything temporarily stored in rams is wiped out. Every time u power on ur computer ur starting with clean rams , nothing on it.
