No, we don't wear a poppy on November 11 here in the U.S.
The poppies are normally sold just prior to our Memorial Day (last Monday in May) and the day is an observance/remembrance day for all soldiers of all wars who have given their lives for our country. How it went from Veterans Day (formerly known as Armistice Day here) to Memorial Day, I truly have no idea.

One of my favorite poems because of what it signified is "In Flanders Field" by Major John McCrae. And the red in the poppy we wear here signifies the blood spilled in that particular war.

Here in the USA, Veterans Day, formerly Armistice Day, is celebrated on November 11. It was renamed to honor all veterans, those who gave their lives and those who returned home safe and sound, those who served in peacetime as well as during a war, from all US wars, not just the veterans of WWI. (In the US, Memorial Day is the day we commemorate those service personnel who gave up their lives for their country.)

The celebration of Veterans Day had been moved to the fourth Monday in October, not November 11, in 1971. It was moved back to the eleventh day of the eleventh month at the eleventh hour (the time/day of the cease fire on the Western Front of WWI) in 1978 because of protests by veterans' groups and others who felt that moving it to a Monday to give Federal employees a three-day weekend lessened the meaning of the holiday and the sacrifices of our veterans.

Yes, I do buy a paper poppy from the American Legion or Veterans of Foreign Wars, organizations who get the poppies made by disabled veterans, some of whom work in sheltered workshops or live permanently in Veteran Administration Hospitals. They, in turn, sell the poppies to make money to fund some of their charitable works, usually to benefit disabled veterans and their families. The poppies are sold both before Memorial Day and Veterans Day, although in my local area, they are sold only before Memorial Day.

Yes, I do. I also wear one on Memorial Day, (last Monday in May). I'm from the USA.

If anyone is interested in the symbolism of the poppy and why the are worn, please check this site.

In the US, disabled veterans make the paper poppies and are paid for their work through the American Legion and Auxiliary.

In New Zealand and Australia on Anzac Day, (you may have heard of it) 25 th April, we honour the fallen in all wars.
The 25th is the day our troops went ashore at Gallipoli in 1915.
