The object sets up a shock wave that is heard as a "sonic boom."

I used to hear them all the time as a kid when I was growing up on Long Island near a couple of companies (Grumman & Republic) that made fighters for the military!

it makes a loud boom as the plane accelerate to the speed of sound, and after it passes it, the I guess the pilot won't be able to hear his own engine haha
