Try your local WIC office. If not, call your local hospital and ask if there are any other services in your area that provide breastpumps you can borrow. There usually is something like that in most towns. You can also try freecyle.org There are often moms giving away baby stuff for free, and all you have to do is pick it up.

The Avent breastpump (manual) works for many women, and in fact, better than electric models for some women. It's about $40-50 at Target.

I have sometimes seen breastpumps at garage sales. The best deal is one sold by a woman who ultimately moved to formula after a couple of months. If it has been unused for a couple of months, I wouldn't hesitate to use it as any bacteria would have died by then. Used, they will still cost more than the Avent, however.

I would not buy a pump at Goodwill. At a garage sale, you can typically speak with the person who used it and find out just how much use it had.

A breast pump is considered at most hospitals a medical supply. If your insurance covers medical supplies I am sure it will cover a breast pump. Hospitals have the pump itself for rent, and they usually give you brand new tubing and the part that fits on your breast in one of those gift bags before they discharge you. When I had my baby,I rented a pump from the hospital it was great. It was big and it wasn't portable but it got the job done. I did purchase a really cheap small from babies r us.

You can always go to taget or a place like that. They usualyl have cheap ones. You can find a manual pump, for about $10-20, if you can afford it. Or the pregnancy clinics can give them away if they have any in stock. Good luck!!!

Many places rent them. I would not suggest the manual ones as they work poorly. Good luck. You may contact the hospital where you had the baby or talk to your Dr.
