(No, I'm not going to stick with pre-made jars of food till she is one year old as that is actually NOT recommended!)

if your doctor says your baby is ready for baby food then you can begin to make your own BUT there are steps that need to be taken, you dont just cut an apple into pieces and mash it, you will need a blender, food mill or food processor and need to boil the apple first. Here is a site on making your own baby food (which I recommend over buying it, cheaper and better for baby). Also a place where you can get things to make your own baby food and store it.

Babies should never be given anything but breastmilk or formula for the first 6 months. Babies younger than a year receive all the nutrion they need from breastmilk (or formula, if you MUST) Introducing food earlier than that is just to teach them how to eat, and perhaps help them stay full longer, rather than because they actually NEED it. Recent evidence shows that introducing foods or juices earlier than 6 months can result in irregular weight gain and constipation, and can put your child at high risk for obesity and food allergies as they get older. Introduce only one food per week, to watch for allergies. Start with cereal as it is easiet to digest. Then work up to yellow veggies. Then go to the rest of the veggies, and then meats. Do fruits AFTER veggies and meats have been introduced. Babies like sweetness, and if you dont get them used to the veggies and stuff first, they may refuse them later because they are spoiled by the fruits. Also, it is shown that it can take up to 13 introductions of a new food before your baby will aceppt it. So if they dont seem to like something, keep trying over time. If your baby is over 6 months old and has already been introduced to cereal, veggies, and meats, a little mashed apple should be perfectly fine, assuming your baby is very used to eating and swallowing, and that the apple is properly pureed. But like I said, only one new food a week, so you can isolate an allergy causing food if your baby has a reaction. Take care

I agree with the above answer....apples are a dangerous fruit, they don't dissolve in the mouth so the present a huge choking hazard. I give my son raw mashed bananas and mangos, they are soft and dissolve a little easier.

your baby can eat whatever you want to give them if you feel that they are ready... your child is already eating alot of different foods and that is very good. mashed apple i would assume without skin.. is a great choice. if your worried about choking they sell this thing that you put food in for your baby and it locks closed and its mesh so that they can eat anything really without choking.... you could even put frozen foods in it.. they love grapes. and it helps with teathing

From 4months old just make sure its pureed so that the baby would not choke.
