No, lawyers aren't usually allowed in small claims court. Ever seen Judge Judy or one of those court shows? That's what small claims court can be like. Although sometimes, you'll just meet a court official in a conference room with the defendant and each make your case.

No. Lawyers are rarely seen in small claims court. Just be prepared to present your side, and bring all the documentation necessary to prove your case.

Attorneys (or anyone else) are generally not allowed to act as representatives in Small Claims Courts. You can however consult with an attorney prior to the hearing and many people do.

few things on getting your SD back:
did you take pictures on move out
what type of condition did you leave the place
how long did you live there
bring all your evidence to court that day, bring everything you have
did the landlord send you an accounting of the SD within the state time line
what are the deductions they claimed? have you gather evidence to dispute this? if so make sure you have it organized before you get to court that day

Logic wins out here...one would pay more for a lawyer than the total amount one could recover from small claims...LOL
