Excellent question.
I think that you can like a song for a lot of reasons. One of them is lyrics, maybe you only like the beat, maybe the songs just reminds you of someone or some place and it makes it nice.
Me, I love songs because of lyrics (even if the melody sucks) and some other songs I just like because the beat is awesome and it makes me feel good, gets me upbeat.
Music is there for you to enjoy, and tastes vary from person to person. So rock on.

They're somewhat important to me. If it's some rap song like This Is Why I'm Hot, I won't listen to it because the lyrics don't have any meaning and the song seems pointless. The majority of songs today don't have any real meaning, but I prefer it when they at least tell some sort of story and don't just repeat some random phrase like Walk It Out.

While songs about topical situations and politics have their place, after a while they seem a little dated and preachy. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a song that is catchy has a great chorus, and is about nothing more than wanting to hold someones hand, or about doing nothing more than wanting to Rock and Roll all night, and party everyday. The only requirement all the music I listen to is, is that it has great lyrics....words that move my soul in one way or another while I am dancing around my house in my pjs.

The lyrics are definitely important, but even better when enforced by a melody and instrumentals fitting the mood of the song. A song with incredible lyrics but lack of creative instrumentals rarely cuts the butter for me, neither does a song with so-so lyrics but godlike instrumentals.

Lyrics are very important to me, especially with r&b music. Hip Hop/Rap not so much, but it doesn't take much talent to make a song about "nothing" the real talent comes in when you actually have some real lyrics. But like I said you can' t make an r&b song about "nothing"

I love lyrics in songs, i think they are great and could be very important. I write songs myself, but i also love just listening to music sometimes just about nothing. Music is awsome. there are songs were i love the lyrics, but sometimes you just want something to listen to and not think about to much.

I LIKE A nice hook to a song, And of coarse the beat has to be pleasing to the ear. Something catchy that's easy to remember. lyrics don't overall matter.
