According to your lists, no, it's not too much. they are all doing different things.
AVG is an anti virus software which specialize in protection from virus.
Ccleaner is a privacy tool which clean up unused and temporary files on your computer. it's not virus cleaner.
windows defender is an anti-spyware. it helps to defend and clean your computer from spyware. spyware and virus are two different things.

here are two tips -
-it's always good to have more than one anti spyware, so when you said you're going to get ad-aware, it's a good idea. that adds up your anti-spyware layer
- it's a bad idea to have more than one antivirus software because they tend to conflict with each other. so you already have avg and there's no need to download another antivirus software. if you want to install something else, say avast, uninstall avg first or at least disable avg first, then only you install avast.

You should only have one antivirus (AVG in this case).

The rest are fine together ccleaner just cleans out unneeded files the others get rid of spyware (not viruses).

I would suggest adding adaware and also spybot search and destroy and spywareblaster. Another useful piece of software is Hijackthis a bit more advanced but you can analyse the output at http://hijackthis.de/ to get an idea of what to remove.

I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from the following link. http://www.computeractive.co.uk/ On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category.I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps.

A good layered defense is the best approach. You can never expect 1 product to catch everything. Just don't install multiple virus protection programs since they tend to "argue". Instead do a free scan for a second opinion at trendmicro (also scans for spyware - removes viruses & spyware for free).

Adaware is a good program, I also like avg's anti spyware also.

Certainly you shouldn't use more than one antivirus program but antispyware is different - Adaware is considered useful by some but I think Spybot is better - update it and "immunize" to protect your system.

you can add Spywareblaster too - it works excellently in concert with Spybot giving you the "layered approach" to security. (Note that Spywareblaster can take a snapshot of your browser and system settings to which you can restore if hit by spyware.) Just update it regularly and enable protection - that's it - no scans to worry about.

Yeah - you can have too much security software but it's only when you're hit by a trojan or worm you think - I wish I had more!
