No. Just like it didn't end in 1943, 1984, 1999, 2006.

P.S.
Do you really want to believe the mayans? They are already extinct (says alot about the accuracy of their prediction already) and they believed that if you ripped a living persons heart out then threw their bodies down stairs would keep the sun on. Do you really trust people like that?

No relax the world is gonna be OK ,
climate change(Global warming) is just going to affect all that lives on the surface

but there are so many other possibilities

here is my collection of ends of the humanity

many predictions are for the years between 2012 and 2020
Nostradamus,the mayas ,Egyptians Jesus ,

and Terrance Mckennas time wave who put the magnetic output of the world into a computor projection that stopped at zero in 2012,this means the globe has stopped and it starts turning
the other way ,the resulting change of currents will turn the planet into a giant washing machine cleaning the surface

then there are the meteors storms (armageddon) ,the gulf of Mexico is the result of one that would have made life exstinct for a while ,this would result in an other ice age because globe gets covered in dust for a few years, blocking out the sun.

then there are more posible natural disasters
Volcanos are coming to life everywhere
the weather has giant storms like hurricanes ,tornados ,tidal waves ,earth quackes

a shift of the earth crust ,would change the position of the poles
under Anrarctica were found fosilized tropical plants indication the pole must have been in a different place then (the mainland atlantis is thought to be under it )

Apart from that , the biggest threat to any species of exstinction is ,when there are too little ,and when there are too many ,so overpopulation is also a threat

and the USA appears to be gunning for a global nuclear conflict .it is most likely that this will get us first ,looking at present politics

the planet will probably survive unless humanities bombs result it to be knocked out of its orbit

so many ends to choose from
if it wasnt so serious it would be rediculous

meanwhile enjoy life .and make the most of it at least we are all in the same boat

This is tied into the Mayan, Aztec, and Sumerian calculations.
All three were very advanced when it came to astronomy. Some believe more than mankind by itself could explain. The
major point on this is the advent of a rogue planet that travels
between our Sun, and a nieghboring star. When this planet comes into our solar system, it is traveling in an opposite orbit than the rest of the planets in our solar system. This planet is very gravity heavy. Heavier than our own planet, and as a result, when it passes our planet at what is called perigee, ( the closest point ,) the gravitational pull will be so strong that it will result in earthquakes. Since this pass is to be the closest to Earth in several passes, this time will be an earthquake of such magnitude, that it will be an extiction level event, and will move continents to diferrent points on the Earth. According to Sumerian records unearthed, this planet
comes around every 3,600 years, which also coinsides with
the approximate time table for calamities on our planet.
So, to answer the original question, no, the world, (I presume you meant world, instead of word,) will not end in the year
2012, but our dominance on this world could easily end then.
By the way, there was a news article a few months back that stated that there was a gravity heavy planet entering our solar system. To learn more about the archealogical findings, look
up Zitchin, Earth Chronicles. That is the most compleate accounting, with some interresting conclusions. He also gives
sources. Also look up Myan, and Aztec Zodiac, and Astronomy.

This is a great question since the Mayan calendar comes to an end that year (predicting catastrophe) and the magnetic fields are expected to shift. If we lose the magnetic field, that would expose us to extreme radiation. Radiation from the Van Allen belt is currently held in the magnetosphere. Could we be fried by radiation if a major event occurs?

"Solar System - Did you notice? In February 2001, the Sun did a magnetic polar shift. The next one is due again in 2012. NASA scientists who monitor the Sun say that our star's awesome magnetic field flipped 22 months ago, signaling the arrival of a solar maximum. But it wasn't so obvious to the average human."

Highly unlikely.

What would cause the earth to end? A big asteroid might cause some damage--a few extinctions--but none appear likely at the present time.

If some clever person developed some sort of nanotechnological self replicating "universal solvent," the earth could be converted into a big featureless ball of goo. That would put an end to some things, but the earth would still possess the same mass and distribution of elements. Its orbit would not change.

Scientists might create a droplet of ultradense matter--a stable quantum black hole, and accidentally release it. If it swallowed the earth, our lovely planet would shrink to roughly the size of a ball bearing, and spin really really fast. It would still possess the same mass, however.

Here's one--someone could convert a few gigatons of matter into antimatter. The antimatter would interact with normal matter, such that protons and antiproton charges and spins would cancel, the mass would convert to energy. That would be sufficient mass to shred the earth in a nuclear explosion that for a brief time would outshine the sun by a factor of 10. That is one way the earth could end, but we are not likely to develop the technology to accomplish such a feat in a mere five years. I'd give that 50, at a minimum. (Accounting for expected exponential growth in scientific understanding).

No. It won't. There is no doomsday prophecy. It's just a bunch of babble. The only thing significant is that the Earth will complete a full tilt in 2012 and that the Mayan calendar comes to an end.

Based on the Mayan calendar, there is a prediction that a major event will happen on December 21, 2012. The event is described is "cataclysmic" by the Mayans, but that is based on their belief system and culture. Study up on the Mayan calendar and predictions, you can dig up more details.

How on Earth - excuse the pun - would anybody really know if the world was going to collapse until it actually happened?

There have been predictions for many years with many reasons given for its demise and nothing has ever come close. I think you're safe though, to make a date for next weekend - although it may rain.
