- Nought and crosses - Malorie Blackman - kinda romance but a brilliant book about different races
- Fight Club - Chick Palahniuk - some bits a bit graphic and gory but an amazing book
- Memoirs of a Geisha - Arthur Golden - romancish
- Woman in Black - Anne Fine - kinda of a chilling ghost story, but not really horror
- Witch Child - Cleia Rees - historical young adult book
- Wild Swans - Jung Chang - amazing biography about three generations of chinsese women - i know biographies can seem boring, but i promise it is fascinating!
- Rebecca - Daphne Du Maurier - my favourite book! just read it, it's really good
- Jane Eyre - one of the Brontes (i can never remember) bit more old-fashioned but it's got romance, horror, history etc.
But that's just me - it depends on who you are, how old you are, what you're in to etc, but I'd recommend them.

I like fantasy mainly (Lord of the Rings being number 1) but....
I just discovered the James Patterson books recently, they're sort of thriller/drama stories. When the Wind Blows was incredible, Kiss the Girls is warped, but they're all pretty much a good read.
Dan 'da Vinci Code' Brown really is good - Angels and Demons is even better than da Vinci Code.
I know you didn't say fantasy but I just have to mention the Dark Materials books (Northern Lights etc) which are probably the best book discovery I made in years. Plus the first one is coming to cinema in December so you've still got a chance to say you read the book first...

well....even though you said five i can't pick between the 6 Harry Potter books. I could never do it! It would take me years so I'd have to say all 6 of those as one book. Then Twilight. New Moon, Click Here, and Romeo and Juliet! Yea I love romance books but Harry Potter is by far the BEST in my opinion! I just could read those books all day and I'd never get tired of them! The seventh book(Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows) comes out July 21st 2007(the final book) and the 5th movie(Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoniex) comes out July 7 2007!! So excited for the final book! I hope Harry doesn't die!!!:(

Not in any particular order I guess.
I honestly have to leave the last one open because there are so many books I haven't read and I know there will be another great one out there.
