I think visiting an Organic farm would give you a better idea of that lifestyle, especially since you say that you're not an outdoor person. Being outdoors is a big part of most kinds of farming, except greenhouse work. It means getting your hands dirty, and working on weekends when the crops are ready to harvest, or when animals need to be fed and cleaned. It can be hard and tiring work, for less financial return than most other jobs. People who run Organic farms do it because they love the lifestyle, not for the pay! And of course, they have the very freshest organic food to eat.

Perhaps you are someone who would love it, so go and take the vacation, and if you like it, there are places where you can work as an apprentice on Organic farms in order to learn the skills you would need.

Another way to work with Organic food (and be indoors, mostly) would be to be an organizer and manager of a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) group, helping to distribute the products of local Organic farmers to the families who subscribe to the service in your area. Then you would be part of a large network, and not have the long hours of working outdoors.

Farming is something you need years of training to do without screwing your farm after a few years, so good luck with that. I would take that vacation though. Make sure you tell us all about it. Don't worry about thre outdoors part it's not like you'll be lost in the woods.

that's a great idea, and one growing in popularity, here in the US and elsewhere.
