* Heartbreak Hotel (Elvis, 1956)
* Move It (Cliff Richard, 1958) First songs by the two most successful singers on the UK charts
* Jealousy (Billy Fury, 1961) Spent a record 281 weeks on the chart without hitting number 1, a record. This was the nearest he got.
* Stranger On The Shore (Acker Bilk, 1962) Longest running number 2 ever, stayed on charts for 55 weeks
* Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields (1967) Ended the Beatles run of 11 straight chart toppers.
* Magical Mystery Tour (Beatles, 1967)
* Holiday (Madonna, 1985) The only time an act has ever stopped itself from reaching no 1
* Honey (Bobby Goldsboro, 1968 and 1975)
* Crazy For You (Madonna, 1985 and 1991) Reached number 2 on two seperate occasions
* Vienna (Ultravox, 1981) Everyone mentions this one, outsold by 'Shadappa You Face.'
* Last Christmas (Wham, 1984) Biggest-selling record NOT to reach no 1
* Kylie Minogue's strange coincidence:
* Got To Be Certain (1988)
* Give Me Just A Little More Time (1992)
* Confide In Me (1994) All these records were outsold by Wet Wet Wet songs - wonder what she did to them in a previous life?
* Groove Is In The Heart (Dee-lite, 1990) Placed at number 2 because it couldn't be seperated from 'the Joker' but the latter had shown a bigger increase in sales. Chart rules were changed after this to allow hits to hold equal chart positions.
* I Swear (All 4 One) Longest-lasting number 2, spent seven weeks in runner up position without getting any higher (People think 'I'm Too Sexy' holds this record)
* Wonderwall (Oasis and Mike Flowers Pops, 1995) Reached number 2 in two different versions
* Adelante (Sash, 2000) Their fifth number 2 hit, without yet hitting number 1. This must be a record.
* Speed of Sound (Coldplay, 2005) Figurehead band of the Noughties, getting outsold by a ringtone (Crazy Frog!)
* 21st Century Christmas (Cliff Richard, 2006) Sir Cliff is trying to reach number 1 in six different decades. This is the nearest he has got in the Noughties.
