Help! My goldfish has a brown-black spot right above his lip. Is it poo, an illness, what? It's 1 milimeter in diameter. P.S. It wasn't here the day before.

It's probably part of the normal coloration. I've bought a few fish with that feature because I liked how it looked and it faded in time. Black spots on a goldfish can be the result of genetics, or being exposed to too much ammonia in their water. If it's the latter, all you need is to keep up with regular water changes.

If it is that small, then it might be a freckle. Yes, fish can grow freckles also.
