Ive done this before,
1. first do your thing with Paint.
2. then go to Myspacetotal.com
3. scroll down, on the left you'll see "Image Upload"
4.Upload your Paint drawing, then copy the URL code it generates.
5.scroll up, on the left youll see "Custom layout generator" , click it
6. Paste the URL code in the available slot, then fully customize your profile!!!

First of all you need to practise. Sorry if this is more information than you need.
In Notepad type the following

My webpage

Hello world

Now click on Save As
Make sure that the save as type is all files
The directory selected is My Documents
and then type the file name as
web1.html
Now click on save.

Now in My Documents create a folder called
images
Create your background in paint and save it in the images folder in My Documents.
Make sure that the save as type is JPG and the file name is
bg.jpg
Now browse My Documents and double click on web1.html
If the background looks ok then you can publish it onto myspace. If not the have a play and make changes.
Keep practising until you get it right.

Good luck
