Too much bickering between the French Canadians and the English Canadians. They haven't figured out how to pull together for the good of the nation. Much like our Democrats and Republicans are becoming.

We had the second largest Navy in the world in 1945 The UK had the 1st and the US the 3rd

We were quite a force doing the impossible in the 1st and 2sn war and were the prefered soldiers for hard tasks in both world wars and the Boer wars

We had no problems putting down rebellions from Natives the French or the Finian's etc

That said we seem to have a problem in that we wait for someone to tell us we have a problem -

If there is no clear threat we won't get off our bar stool and thats that

The population of the US has historically been far more war like and ready to fight -

Our nation was settled by a store yours by the gun Ours by a lonely British surveyor and a pen yours with the sherrif and the gun

Ours had Mounties that if you killed one 10 more showed up - Yours if you killed the sherrif you were the sheriff

Come here and walk around one Mountie has been able to turn a crowd around with a bullhorn and the anouncement I am Sgt so and so of the - and I am ordering you to X

Somthing goes wrong in this country we yell where was the government where were the police ?

It makes our soldiers incredible it also makes us lazy .

We wait for someone to come out and say we need to do somthing You go do this you go do that

Look at the reaction of the public when the Minister of fisheries ordered the screw of a Spanish trawler be shot out and the ship dragged back to face charges -

Our government said that is a threat and the people went nuts "go get the F-u-ck ers, Don't look over your shoulder"

The Minister got us off our bar stool and then told us to go back to it - and we did -

A completely different view on things - Makes for an ordered safe society - and a lazy one that does not always see threats

Look at the war meausres act in the October crisis - Marshal law - overnight in response to a threat of terror -

It is somewhat similar to US-Japan relationship! But for its close link with Britain and the Commonwealth, Canada would have long ago been swallowed by USA!
