Three Advantages
1. French is spoken by about 300 million people around the world as a mother tongue or second language, with significant populations in 54 countries.
2. French as a foreign language is the second most frequently taught language in the world after English.
3. It is an official language in 41 countries, most of which form what is called in French La Francophonie, the community of French-speaking nations.

Three Disadvantages
1. Not really a disadvantage exactly, but learning a second language later in life is much more difficult, especially if you are not immersed in the language, i.e. living in France.
2. Depending where you live or how much you travel it might not be all that useful for you to learn.
3. You have to talk to other French people if you want to be understood.

It is also a good exercise for the jaw, ( trying to pronounce all those vowels)
