The flow of funds from sale of black gold is well-channelled in most of the oil-exporting countries and that process apparently has created and continues to provide lots of opportunities for the mobility of labour force from the oil-importing countries to those places. Look for example at the rapid transformation of a tiny place like Dubai in the Middle-East - amazing, just amazing, and the beneficiaries are people from other parts of the world, including western countries, more than the locals!

You mean the 7-9% profit margin they earned? Why should they? They pay their corporate taxes like any other corporation. They shouldn't pay one red cent more (in terms of percentages) than does your corner 7-11.

Why do so many on the left consider "profit" to be a dirty word?

Obviously, they do. But, consider this - Iran nationalized western oil fields; the US gov did nothing to protect their property. Venezuela is nationalizing western oil fields, the US gov is doing nothing. Bolivia nationalized western gas fields, the US gov did nothing. These So-American countries will be the rich threats to your life in a few years, b/c we didn't bomb those fields back to their pre-western-developed state when they were nationalized.

That's because they are using the profits to find more oil and gas wherever the eco-nazis will let them. Which isn't very many places.

Tut, tut...you are a bad Democrat. You should use Hillary's term: excess profits. The oil companies must save up their excess profits so that Hillary can get her hands on them. [I despise that woman.]

Obviously this question is rhetorical because that could result in bad publicity and possibly boycotts etc. Why would they want to tamper with the formula that has made them so rich?
