My ex-sister-in-law made a comment to me that hut me.
My ex-husband (her brother) and I went through a divorce and we thought we might get back together. I told her that we probably would not.

She said "It must be hard to not have anyone to anyone to share your life with." I was caught by surprise and could not come up with a response.

Do some women who are married put down other women who are not married?

What would have been a good response?

You should have said: Who said I didnt have anyone to share my life with? I dont need anyone in my life thats going to hurt me, and If its just me in my life, its non of your business! And then you walk away.

Some people say things and they just do not think. You should of responded back by saying "I still have a life to lead who knows who will be knocking at my door next" That would of shut her up and put her in her place.

Why is that comment so bad? I bet you the majority of women who are generally available wish they were married and have a "good" family.

The comment didn't sound like a put-down. You are too sensitive and it might actually have struck a hidden sore chord inside you.

some married woman do put down single women because they represent competitiion to themself. I would try not to take the insult as personally as she is putting her fears onto you. You will be fine, you will be able to move on.

I don't think that was a put down at all - it was actually a decent thing to say, because it's true. It is hard to be on your own after a divorce, so she was just commisserating with you. Your response should have been, - well, yes it is.

what a cruel and utterly stupid thing for her to say, she either is malicious, or unconscious of what she did. You should not have to say a thing to something beneath your level. I hope you looked her in the face like she was a freak! She sounds like someone very callous. Good luck to you and enjoy yourself. It will keep getting better. Avoid negativity and the like.

why is it a problem...you can come and go with no one harping on you, you can eat crackers in bed if you want, you've got more freedom than she does...can go on vaca to places and have fun...like what happens in VEGAS stays in VEGAS!
