I am a paranoid person by nature. My place of employment is downsizing and I know my job is on the line like everyone elses. Because of my paranoia, this is really freaking me out. I am thinking about it all the time. I am sick to my stomach, unable to eat and unable to enjoy the other parts of my life. I have heard that when God closes a door he opens a window and I am trying to believe that another opportunity will come up, but what if it doesn't, what should I do?

Write our a resume and have it ready and waiting. Being prepared is a step in relieving your stress. If you are ready to move on, you are less likely to worry so much about it all. Why not job hunt as well, that way you've got a plan to fall back on in the case that you are let go. Lool for places you know you'll get hired by experience or education. Who knows, maybe while you look you'll find something you'd rather do anyway and you'll be the one leaving on your own terms.

An opportunity does always come up. I say relax a bit, take a breather. If you feel you might loose your job (and not knowing the reason why you are) maybe you should just prove to them you are a keeper. Work harder, but show you have confidence, you have it in you, just use it.
And relax man, you only live once, don't waste it on things such as this.

I'd encourage you to consider what (if anything) you're doing to reassure yourself? It sounds as though you have a lot of anxiety and I'd suggest learning some coping strategies and ways of facing your fears. Very short term therapy can be helpful in teaching a person more effective ways to deal with what's on their plate. My personal favorite way to face fear is to ask myself, if the worst happens - will I be ok? The fear may be very unpleasant and losing a job is a hard thing - but is it overwhelming? If you know that you can survive this than the fear doesn't have to cripple you. Prepare a resume and take stock of your options.

Try not to worry about something that could happen! This is life. Do the best job that you can do and be pleasant, don't miss work or be tardy. Beyond that, there isn't much you can do. Good luck.

if you like your job and you want to keep it, then show the company how valuable you are... after all, when managers discuss who stays and who goes... its nothing personal, its just on who brings more money to the table since wages are the BIGGEST expense a company has. Just work harder, and prove to them that they would lose a lot if they let you go. good luck! : )

Beat them to the chase, and start looking now. How about a carreer change?
Do something you love doing, then it's not work anymore!
