I've had this computer for 2 years with no problem. Now for about a week it is starting to mess up and im not sure what it could be. When i try to turn it on it goes into some kind of "Hibernation." The computer screen goes into power save mode and ALL programs automatically are off. This happenes before anything loads up, while it's showing the logo for computer type, or at the start, during, or after Windows XP is loaded up. It will also happen randomly while im on the computer doing things. It has nothing to do with the "Power Options" menu. And when it does happen i've noticed a very low click sound. I cant afford a new computer and I really need info on how to fix this if anyone knows, could it be the Ram or maybe Windows XP? Please help!

turn off hibernation. some programs conflict with the windows xp hibernation program and they cause problems when windows trys to come out of hibernation. To do this:
-Start
-Control pannel
-power options
-hibernation tab
-disibale hibernation

this is most likely the problem as hibernation can confilct with some programs.

Also the click noise you are hearing in NOT good if it sounds like it is coming from your hard drive. If it does sound like it is your hard drive then back up all your files, because your hard drive is going to die soon if the clicking is comming from it.

Listen, FIRST THING....if you've had it for 2 years then you've got tons of data on it. Do whatever you have to do to back it up. If you CAN get it up and operational , backup your pics and documents and favorities folder, etc. to either CD, Memory stick, or go buy a Western Digital MYBOOK for under $200. Also, if you are getting the windows splash screen, it means that you're past the BIOS part of bootup, and are in fact talking to your hard drive, in some capacity. Take your pc to a shop and GET THAT DRIVE BACKED UP. Your PC is replaceable. your data is not. Listen, seriously, dont wait. Buy a stack of CD from Wallmart and start burning...do whatever you have to do...but back that bad boy up right away. DO NOT RUN ANY DAMNED DISK CHECK UTILITIES or mess with drive diagnostics in ANY WAY until you are BACKED UP.
Now...If you are SURE its not your power settings, then check the following:
if its a laptop, your powersupply (the lil box on the cord) may be burnt out or defective. Your battery may be draining, even if you think it's plugged in. Also, you may want to try swapping out your laptop battery. If the PC sees insufficient battery power, your setting probably say to hibernate. If its a desktop, open her up and check your power supply.

If it is NOT any of these, then it is DEFINITELY a burn or defective in one of your boards, in which case you can shop online for a replacement. (but really, a new toshiba laptop can be gotten for under $500).

Also, go online and report the problem to the manufacturer and beg and plead and stuff. Even if you're out of warrantee, you'd be surprised how helpful DELL, Gateway, Toshiba and Panasonic are about supportting you, if you suck up and convince them you're a loyal customer. (Ive done it twice).

Listen, good luck and let us know how it goes.

Weeeellllll, YES, probably all of the above. And it probably has EVERYTHING TO DO WITH POWER OPTIONS.

Unless you've already gone into the power options and deactivated the hybernate. That would be my first thing deactivate hybernate.

1. Do you have active up-to-date and scanned anti-virus software?
2. Do you have active up-to-date and scanned anti-spyware?

If you still have the problem after 1 and 2, then start uninstalling stuff you've installed off the internet starting with the latest installation. Look at your add/remove list in Control Panel, and decide which of these appear to be stuff you haven't asked for. Research it and then delete it if it's not stuff you need.

if you can stay on long enough before it goes into hibernate, do what the other guy said and try to go into where you can turn off hibernation. you can right click on the desktop, go into the screensaver tab, then in there theres a box that says power options. go into that and go into the hibernation tab. i think thats where you can check/uncheck the box to enable hibernation or not.

you don't need to buy a new computer. Sound like power supply problem. It can be power supply fan. Means there is not enough power to wake up Windows. The best solution IMHO is replace power supply. If you don't know how ask Computer professional.

Click start, run, then type chkdsk /f

It will ask if you want to run chkdsk when the computer reboots, tell it yes,. Then reboot your computer. If chkdsk can't resolve the issue, it's my guess your hard drive may need to be replaced. Good Luck

Try downloading an antivirus program, because it might just be a virus.
