Some will point out that the Scandinavian countries have a socialist economy and are rated among the happiest places in which to live, and this might well be true. What they neglect to mention is that by placing such a huge tax burden on the successful, one disincentivizes the risk taking, innovation, and hard work necessary for an entrepreneur to be successful. There will never be a Sven Gates.

Over-confidence, obsession with romance and lethargy have plagued some nations like France which have witnessed rapid progress in the last century. All such nations, including USA, are now experiencing regression and unless there is a fresh awakening among the people, the clock will start ticking fast backward!

There are better examples of liberal socialist countries in Northern Europe.

And really, you are trying to paint a black and white picture... Most countries have at least some socialist policies, which work very well. It's just that it should not be taken too far.

While there has been no "Sven Gates", there IS a Linus Torvalds (Finland), the creator of a free open-source operating system called Linux. I prefer to be proud to have a Linus than a Gates, but each to their own....

Do you remember a thing that used to be called The Roman Empire? They were consumed by their own arogance in the flames and speartips of their enemies because they became the equal of today, what we call liberals. They became lazy and put all of their trust and faith and freedom into the hands of the government which was incompitant to sustain them and failed.

America, wake up. You want to think that we are special and it cannot happen again? Look down the road. Do not give up your freedoms. As appealing as it might be, do not let politicians accept total responsibility for you. You are responsible for your own future. Keep it. Keep your freedom. Keep your plastic bags and incondescent light bulbs and SUV's. You have worked to earn them. Do not let others guilt you into becomming weak.

Because socialism has failed everywhere it has been tried. It just doesn't promote enough wealth production.
France has its own problems, primarily the french. They haven't won a war since Napoleon, except during the French Revolution, where it was fighting itself. They've been surrendering for 200 years. That rubs off on people.
