Why is it that sometimes I can't see when someone signs on to MSN?

Usually a window with their pic pops up showing they logged in but other times, they're just there without notification..?

they sign in to appear invisible or to appear off line when they do that u wont know if they are online or not.

Perhaps they have set MSN to "stay invisible" to make sure no one knows they have signed in.
