My Dell Optiplex GX260 will not power on. When I press the power button, it turns yellow/orange right away. I can open the CD ROM drive, but thats it. I cant get anything to display on the the screen. What should I do? I have opened it up, and I do not see any loose wires. It was working fine the other day.

Thanks in advance.

As the GX260 is from the Celeron era, it could well be the power supply. You could try a salvaged power supply from another computer carcass. If you don't get any video, then it could also be the graphics card, especially if you had a high-powered one. If it were me, I'd check the Dell web site to see what a power-on light with no video cause is.

I would recommend checking the main harness of wires that plugs into the motherboard for a loose wire or one that could have backed out just a little from the harness. If all is fine there i would see if my power supply is operating. If you press power on the computer and hear nothing then your power supply could be shot. I dont think your power button is broke because you say it changes color when pressed.

it is possible your motherboard is fried i had the same issue with my dell dimension i tried everything the only way to tell if your hard drive isnt messed up is to put it in a different computer and do a chkdsk scan on it.go to run type cmd then type chkdsk:\d or whatever letter your hard drive is coming up as to find that out just go to my computer and it will be displayed there. hope this helps

one thing to try unplug from the wall take off the side locate the battery it's about the size of a quarter remove the battery on the mother board and put it back in and plug it back in and start it back up what it does is it clears the cmos so you're going to have to reset the time and date but it might work for ya

Is the seated tight on the motherboard?

Check the ram. Google about that model.
