what is it going to take to get the gas prices to a normal price?? i think $2-3 or more per gallon is ridiculous. i wish the people of the US would stand as 1 on this and somehow boycott gas or cars or something. the government can do more i'm sure, if we would take no less than some sort of resolution.

i'm not blaming a president. that's not why i posted. as far as euro, everything is higher there so i'm not conerned about their prices. i'm curious as to how quickly they decide to raise and lower the prices as they wish. that tells me someone has some kind of control. holidays, summer, ect. they try to hit us at particular times whens they THINK people are driving more. HMMM... that's why i wish we could do more as a nation to help one another. the gov. don't care. 30-40 dollars to fill a civic is crazy.

I Totally and Completely Agree with you. Gas prices is ridiculous, and yes the government can do something about it. Its just that people will say that the gas prices are to high, and yell about it, but they don't take any action. There is so much I have to say on this issue, but there isn't enough room on this page to type it. We NEED to take a stand on this. Get back and forth to work is so expensive, you have to use your whole check just to put gas in your car. This is so out of control! We need to make a stand on this, and it doesn't need to be a Speech! If we don't take action soon, things Are going to get worst.

Gas prices will go down when oil prices come back down. If you can somehow convince investors that oil doesn't need to be $65 a barrel, the price will come down. There's currently no practical alternative to fossil fuel cars, so Americans have to continue using them for the foreseeable future.
The government can't do anything either except cutting taxes on gasoline. The gas tax is not significant though; it's less than 40 cents a gallon and fuel is taxed at the federal, state, and local levels and all three governments would have to offset a reduced gas tax with an increased tax on something else. There really aren't any quick answers.
Just be thankful that fuel is only $3 a gallon; in most parts of Europe, it's more than double that.

I agree with you, the price of gas is outrageous! I think a boycott could work, but it would be short term at best. Once we start buying gas again the price will go back up. The Fo0t said he wants the price to go up to $5 or $6 a gallon. That will not help me or many others here in this country. I live in an area where there is NO public transportation. I drive an economy car and it cost me $45.00 to fill up now! I do not take unnecessary trips. I make all my errands in one circle if at all possible. I am struggling now as a single parent, with no help from anyone! (I get no public assistance and my son's father is not paying his support either). Hell, I barely make 13thousand a year. I know I am not the only one in this situation.
If prices keep going up, how are we expected to be able to afford the gas we to get to work? Should we all just quit our jobs and go on welfare?
Then we have the farmers. They rely on gas for daily operations of their farms. What are they supposed to do?
Sorry I know that my answer ended up more of a vent than anything.

Please query "PEAK OIL" for information about why oil prices are increasing at an astronomical rate.
The United States oil production has been reduced since the 1970s. On a worldwide basis, oil production is beginning to decline. Because oil prices are inelastic (people will pay almost anything for their petro), we will see skyrocketing prices because of supply and demand.
The Internet has many articles about this phenomenon and the problem has been known for at least 40 years. Oil is not a renewable resource.

Last summer, London was paying the equivalent of $7-8 per gallon. So be glad the US government is doing the best that they can for the long run.

I wish it would come back down to a reasonable price again, I'm tired of spending about 45 dollars to fill my tank. We work very hard for our money.

I hope the gas prices go to $5 or $6.
No one is going to care about fuel conservation without that happening. And that is the only way for gas/fuel price will ever go down.
We need to get off gas, and the only way is to make sacrifices like our grandparents did. We have never scarified, that's why we don't care about our effect of the environment.
