my dad sliced his finger with a dry wall blade cutter? and it's 8 inches deep. it stopped bleeding for a while but what should he do?

Cover the wound with gauze.. or even a fresh tea towel. Apply pressure and don't let go. Take him to the hospital.. he'll need stitches and other medical care. Keep him alert and talking on the way.

I'm assuming you mean the cut is 8" wide.
Clean the wound thoroughly. Go to the drug store and get butterfly bandages (the little strips). Put some neosporin or other topical antibiotic on it to thwart infection.
It it continues to bleed, it's time for stitches.

If it's 8 inches deep, you need to call an ambulance.
If it's 8 inches long, he needs to go in and get stitches and a tetanus shot.

go to hospital and check it out= if your Dad has not had a tetanus shot in the past 5 years he will have to get one

He had better go to the Emergency Room, and have it looked after. If nothing else, he should get a tetanus shot.
