Ditamious earth/limestone?made of the dead diatoms collected at the bottom of sea then when the water evaporated or seal evel changed the fossilized rock piles remained exposed(white cliffs of dover for example.)

clay forms either siltstones or shales. By definition (glossary of geologic terms) they are shales, but for normal people distinguishing siltstone from shale is difficult. Both are finely bedded and are formed from clastic materials that are too small for the human eye to identify individually.
