Supply and demand.
Regardless of how often musicians tell us they are "artists" or want to stay "true to their artistic vision", actually they're just trying to sell records. If musicians weren't interested in making money, their music would be free.
Anyway, record sales dictate to artists what types of music they should write, along with the lyrics. It's easy to see what is popular right now, the same types of music you have pointed out. So, if I wanted to sell a lot of records, the easiest route to go is swear a lot, write about inappropriate themes, and have a song that is insanely simplistic and repetitive.

There's a big difference between sensual, erotic songs and the crass, profanity ridden trash that some of the record companies try to pass off as music these days.
I don't know what kind of music is your favorite or how old you are, but Ihere are thousands and thousands of songs from all different genres from the 1920's to the 1980's ( and some from the 1990's) that are wonderful examples of great music. I don't have the room to list all my favorites. However, if you click on my avatar, you can check out some of my answers to music related questions where I listed some of my all time favorite artists and songs.

...I think Evanescence has great music and I'm pretty darn sure they don't talk about sex. Drugs, a bit, but not particularly.
Maybe the catchy songs that appeal to the ears has the inappropriate themes, and the ones with appropriate themes are slow, and usually things you might not hear being played on the radio airwaves.

In this generation we are obsessed with sex and foul language. It's easier to sing about "tapping that a**" than actually venting our feelings about societal issues or spirituality. Subjects like these are boring and involves intelligence.

i think that songs are being targeted at the 19-23 year old i-tunes crowds, since downloads do bring in lots of revenue and profanity makes the songs sound cool and also rap-hip hop is becoming increasingly popular

There ARE songs that are more age appropriate for this generation, but they are less appealing, now that we have all been exposed to harmful or explicit, these songs are less appealing to the majority of our population.

Because they are unoriginal and the people buying their music let them get away with it.
It's all a load of bull if you ask me.
