He was hearing the plea for leniency from a guy who had stole a credit card . The guy had said that he was a Christian and normally never would've done it, except for the need to buy some necessities . The guy went on to explain that he's a devout Christian etc .
Well, Judge Burlew decided to check the credibility of this man, and asked him. . . . . " Since you're claiming to be a devout Christian, why don't you recite the 23rd Psalm for me " ? The judge thought he had cornered this guy and no way would he be able to do it if he was lying . Well, you guessed it !! The man recited the Psalm perfectly !! The judge was shocked and granted the man probation for being honest !!
On a side note : Several of the defendants who were in court that day went back to the jail and told the rest of the guys to memorize Psalm 23, thinking they could get leniency too . But the next day in court the judge opened the proceedings saying " Ok folks, today it's John 3:16 " LMAO, what a guy he is !!

For those of you who do not understand the judicial system.. . . The crime was minor, comparably speaking . And the judge has every right to grant a little leniency to defendants if he thinks their crime was an act out of character for the person . He can use whatever means he chooses to determine the veracity of each defendant . This man made a claim, and the judge checked it . Nothing more !

Yes it really happened !! I just watched an interview with the judge .
And to those of you who still don't get it . .. This wasn't a 'Christian' issue, it was an 'Honesty' issue .
