Yes, considering how much $$ you will have to spend just to go to medical school. Your nose will be in the books, and you won't have much of a social life, and it can even affect intimate relationships. But everything will pay off in the future.

Think of it this way...

Average job = lots of fun in your 20s, but difficult as you get older and start a family.

Doctor = lose much of your social life in your 20s, but are financially secure and have lots of money for house, etc for your family in the future. You can retire and have well enough money to live happily.

Adversity and struggle? I don't know, but my granddaughter, soon to graduate, has worked hard for six years and will go on doing so for a few more before becoming a G.P. Of course, there may be some who don't get help from parents, then it would be a harder road.

Defiinitely. For they are just alike any other human beings.
I have met some doctors with rich backgrounds yet they have a whole lot of issues ranging from relationships problems to financial irregularities. They still need to struggle in life.

Minkus,
First of all Doctors are just people like everyone else. They go to school, they study and they get a job. I'm an Electrician and I went to school and I studied, then I got a job. Yes life can be difficult for all of us. A doctors life can be more or less complicated as anyone else's life. It's all proportional.
