The angles did not indicate that. If they were, he'd expect all alpha particles to be deflected a certain bit. He had the ability to see deflections in all directions with a phosphorescent screen.

If they had been deflected, he would have observed that. Instead, post went straight through the gold sheet, and a few were bounced back at extreme angles.

He expected that all the alpha particles would go straight through the gold foil because the alpha particles are very heavy (they are Helium nuclei, atomic mass 4) . So when he saw a little deflection that might have made sense as being caused by electrons, but when he saw major deflections, that didnt make sense - the alpha particles are just too big. And when he saw some alpha particles being bounced straight backwards - that really wowed him. He said it was as if he had fired the largest cannon at a piece of tissue paper and the cannon shell had bounced back.

Then he realized that the atom had to have a massive nucleus that concentrated the atom's mass in a very small volume.

It concluded that an atom is style of a watermelon with the crimson section being the atom and the seed being the electrons embedded in it. It additionally concluded that the beneficial fee is gathered in the centre of the atom and there are various areas between the nucleus and electron as a results of fact of this many alpha debris surpassed in the process the gold foil. there became right into a million greater pt. i forgot,,, i did it 3 grades bak, happy to help
