I love my wife more than life itself.
If something happened to her, life would not go on for me.
37 years and counting.

Well, I don't agree that "love hurts", as that song I liked as a kid said. "Love is like a flame, burns you anytime! Love hurts!" I don't remember who the artist was on that one, but he was DEAD WRONG! Because, since I've come to know the one who "is love" (GOD! 1 John 4:8), I am growing in the realization that there really IS only ONE "true love" that will NEVER end, and that is ETERNAL LIFE THROUGH JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD.(Romans 6:23)

Now, that being said, let me make it clear that I absolutely believe in LOVE between a man and a woman! And it is WONDERFUL! When two people "fall in love", hopefully they will "grow in love". But that's just it! It's not really their "love" that grows, but THEM! Love is EVERLASTING, and therefore UNCHANGING, even as the Bible tells us: "Charity [Love] never faileth....And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity." (1 Corinthians 13:8-13)

And since "God is love", in a very REAL sense, "true love" SHOULD cause us to "fall"......on our faces before Him! In other words, to humble ourselves in adoration and love of OUR LORD! And if we are humble, we will take a LOWER place before that one we have "fallen for", secure in knowing that being BELOW them, we cannot really "fall hard". We will instead seek to bless them, rather than worrying about "What's in it for me?"

Will there be times of pain? disappointment? heartache? even heart BREAK? Yes! Due to the fact that people are HUMAN and SINNERS, even that "special someone", it's almost certain that they will in SOME way do that to us! But that is where we must keep in mind that LOVE, "true love", is a COMMITMENT! And it is that COMMITMENT that carries two people through the BAD as well as the GOOD! And when we keep THAT thought in the forefront of our hearts and minds, the result will be the HEALING of our "broken hearts" OVER AND OVER AND OVER again!

This may sound strange, but it's actually those times of "heartache" and "broken heartedness" when we GROW the most and become STRONGEST! Because as Christians, our trials cause us to "Draw nigh to God", which will result in how God will "draw nigh to you" (James 4:8) "The LORD is nigh unto them that be of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit." (Psalm 34:18) Jesus came "to heal the broken hearted" (Luke 4:18), and that is why it is SO important that we NEVER make any "mere mortal" our "world", not even that one we call "spouse" and our "one and only". Instead, we must give CHRIST our heart! That way, it will NEVER "break into a million pieces", as you say here! For while He may "break" our heart, He doesn't SHATTER AND DESTROY it! Man or woman may, but God NEVER WILL!

And keep in mind, people really CANNOT rightly say, "I will ALWAYS be there for you!" Because even if you REMAIN in relationship with them, ultimately, they WILL DIE! But Jesus Christ is RISEN FROM THE DEAD, AND ALIVE FOR EVER MORE! And "he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." (Hebrews 13:5). Seek the LORD, and guess what? That "special one" that you are "falling for" will become even MORE endeared to your heart, seeing that HE KNOWS that your "first love" is CHRIST(Revelation 2:4). Because he IS, like yourself, A CHRISTIAN, right? As you BOTH "seek the LORD while he may be found" (Isaiah 55:6), as you grow closer to HIM, you will ALSO grow closer to EACH OTHER! And isn't THAT a pleasant thought? Love ya babe! (After Jesus, you're my "main squeeze"!!! Can I "squeeze" you real good?)

I did that with my husband, head over heels, fall down a cliff in love... and here I am, 25 years later and still madly in love and crazy for him as ever.

I was in love only once, & it was the beginning & the end...I don't expect to feel that way for anyone ever again. But hey, anything is possible.
