I do not have experience with Vista for now, but I have a strong experience with M$ OSes.
I would suggest to wait a little before moving from XP to Vista, unless some of the application you need are not running under XP (what likely do not exist).
Reasons: Vista has just been put on the market, and its novelty comes with bugs and several things that will be enhanced in coming version of Vista.
In addition, if you wait few months you will pay less for it.
:-)

vista is a new operating system, so it must has some bugs, If you want to upgrade, then wait a while till the service pack is available then the bugs would be fixed.
I have Vista as a second operating system on my computer. I really liked the new graphic shiny stuff, but this reduce the performance of your machine, it really needs a powerful computer!
If you ask me why I wont use Vista as my first operating system I will tell you why:
1-It slows my machine even that I have a powerful one.
2- some softwares didn't work in it like Adobe reader 8, which is a bad sign that other programs might not work either.
3- Vista needs longer time to start and to shut down than XP.
4- I don't need the HIGH level of security that Vista offer, may be if am using my computer as a server I would think about it, anyway, any anti virus would do the job.
5- You don't need to install drivers, Vista will do it. But it didn't recognize my new HP printer, which doesn't have a Vista CD to install its driver, so you might need to go check the web for drivers that vista doesn't support.
The things I liked about Vista is the new Aero look and the Chess game :D
In my opinion it doesn't deserve that high price.

Not had any problems with vista but don't think it is worth the money to upgrade from XP unless you have some need to.
Yes vista looks good, all my programs work, no hardware problems etc but it just isn't really enough to be worth paying full price for.
Getting vista when you get a new PC is probably the best thing to do.

If your PC can handle it, I'd do it. If you have an old PC, better stick with XP because Vista has newer requirements and different ways of handling things. Old Hardware won't work as well because they haven't written drivers for everything.
On a newer PC, it's good because new games and software in the future are going to require Vista.

Don't do it!!! I did it the week that Vista came out and it has been the biggest head ache of my life. Not all programs and hardware are compatible with it yet. I had to buy a new printer, web cam and mic. iTunes doesn't work properly. It's more of a head ache than anything!! Wait till it's been out for a while longer to get all bugs out first. Enjoy XP. I wish I still had it!!!

It's actually based on XP , so if you are an ordinary user , don't upgrade , but if you really need the new features that had been added to Vista , it's better for intenet , its interface is nicer , and many other things ...
but I don't recommend that you do that now , cause it's still full of security holes , wait for a second edition , or keep installin the latest updates from microsoft ..

It sounds like somebody downgraded from Vista to XP on your computing gadget. i could say the best element to do is flow out and purchase the Vista DVD or Vista improve DVD this is greater much less high priced, a minimum of homestead top rate in case you want the Aero characteristic which seems so lots greater proper than the undemanding version of Vista. i'm fairly particular that they contain SP1 on the Vista discs so no could desire to place in SP1! as quickly as you get the DVD you basically pop it on your CD/DVD tray and run it, it is self-explanatory. be certain to place in the latest updates for it and luxuriate in! additionally XP is going to run out updates sometime in 2009 - 2010 so ultimately in case you want the latest updates from malware threats and perfomance updates, i could flow to Vista sometime quickly or wait til homestead windows 7 comes up sometime next year or perhaps flow to homestead windows Vista then homestead windows 7! I hate people who argue that Vista is undesirable whilst the two: a) they did no longer ever use it b) Their computing device can not take care of it c) it is too "extreme-tech" for them d) all the above / different BTW, Vista SP1 and the latest updates for it corrected maximum individuals of the matters or perhaps SP2 is popping out early next year, which i beta examined and quite it superior the overall performance of: startup, shutdown, and usual overall performance.

I own a computer business and have been telling all my clients to stay away from it for up to a year and in some cases forever. Unless there is some overriding reason you absolutely have to have Vista, don't put yourself through the frustration.
