I've had my mollie fry for about a week now and they were fine until two nights ago. Since then, around 15 of them have died. There was around 40 fry to begin with.....What are the chances of some living until they are big enough to go into the main tank with the other fish? Reply quick pease. thanks :)

Ok going to take it that your Mollie had her fry over the last week or so. If you have a breeder net that needs to be cleaned quite often. Chances are great that you will get at least 12 or more to live and get into the big tank. If you feel the breeder net is not good enough you can get a tank divider and that will allow more room for them to move around but less for the larger fish. Kind of a catch 22 situation. I fed my fry normal fish food, just ground it up smaller and some escaped the boundary I had set up. 8 survived and I gave one away and have 7 left. How often are you feeding them?

I waited two months and then gave up and put them with the general population and they have been great.

Try adding some non-iodized salt to your tank at 1 tablespoon per every 5 gallons of volume. Mollies will do better with some salt in the water and can take up to marine-strength seawater.

Also, make sure their water quality is good by doing small (10-15%) partial water changes a few times a week and feed them more frequently than you would adults.

Keep their temps on the warm side (~78-80o).

I dont understand it either. Sometimes this happens. I take time out and watch the fry to see if they all eat. Usually they lay on the bottom and do noting.
If they are in a breeder box do you clean the bottom of it everyday? You should keep it cleaned out because of the food going bad in the box.
email me with more details.
What are they in ?
