Very subjective as one mans meat, another man's poison. That said, mine would be:

Goldfrapp, Muse, Blur, David Bowie (70's) The Foo Fighters, Franz Ferdinand, The Vines, The Verve, Jeff Buckley, Smiths, Stone Roses, The Pixies, The Beatles, Radiohead, Queens of the Stone Age, Amy Winehouse, Guillemots, Simon and Garfunkel, Prince (80's), Pink Floyd, Madonna, Nirvana, Nick Drake, Air, My Bloody Valentine, Ride, Mercury Rev, Massive Attack, Basement Jaxx, KT Tunstall, The Killers, Kasabian, Jane's Addiction, Suede, The Cure, Crowded House, Cocteau Twins, Roxy Music, Bjork, Beck and the Arctic Monkeys.

There's lots of stuff i can see why people rate it or like it that don't float my boat and theres loads more of things i like a wee bit of.

Ultimately, if it's got a good tune and appears to have been made with some passion and fire in it (so not just lame disco cover versions of classic songs) you could probably see at reasonably decent.

Your right Fifi there is not much good music around these days. I was born in 1974 so I was lucky to grow up with great music.

I love 80's music because you can understand what they are singing about. Today's music is full of crap & annoying whining stuff & a number of today's music is hashed up bits from past music.

Plus all this weight issue. You have got to be a size thin to make it. Its all wrong.

One group's music I do like is from the Sugababes. They are the only decent music group around. Even though they are skinny too.

Try listening to anything by The Rain Parade.
Their music fits your description of "real, decent music."
'Emergency Third Rail Power Trip'
'Explosions In The Glass Palace'
'Beyond The Sunset'
'Crashing Dream'

Listen to something you've never heard of, and neither have your friends. Hope for the best, otherwise, my idea of good music consists of The Mars Volta, John Frusciante solo albums (and to a lesser extent the stuff he does with Red Hot Chili Peppers-he's the guitarist), Phillip Glass piano pieces, Bad Manners, the list is endless, it's all down to taste but there is tons of good music to be heard, it's just finding it. i like REM, John Denver, James Taylor. Ok even though i'm only 28 I have an old soul. I've started listening to a lot of 60's and 70's singer songwriter types.
I like Van Morrison and Tom Waits some too.

true true!music right now is a little tainted but i think real and decent music are songs that really have a great melody and the lyrics touch your heart! and maybe your soul...hehehe...

It's kinda hard to find those now but if you try your gonna get it!
But we all have different tastes and opinions so your and mine can be different.

Hope I helped THOUGH!:)

Mainstream chart music is not music at all...it's just ghetto people mumbling over a beat with no melody or tune...

Listen to the Carpenters!! And Olivia Newton-John...oh, and Bread! Good ol' AM Radio, easy-listening, middle-of-the-road, white-bread soft rock!!

There is good R&B music I'm talking Aretha, Patti, and Whitney.. Try some classic if you need a switch. Good music to me is good lyrics and melodies. I love all music so that's a good thing. Honest, the best music to relax to is jazz/soul type.
