When you don't have to deal with a child, 24 hours a day, it's much easier to be permissive and loving. You aren't dealing with the consequences of it, or the really rough times (bedtime, dinner, homework, etc.)
I do agree that my parents (especially my father) were much better grandparents.

My parents are like that. Not that they weren't brilliant parents when I was growing up. They were awesome. But they do seem to be a lot more tolerant of my kids little misgivings than they ever were with mine. Maybe something to do with them being able to give them back at the end of the day! Whatever the reason, there's nothing more I love than watching my Dad degenerating into a five year old whenever the kids are around him. It's sometimes hard to tell which out of the three of them is the most mature!

Oh, most definitely. When we finally have grandchildren, we've loosened up quite a bit, not only from old age, but experience. I can't wait until my daughter gets married and has children, as long as it's when she's at least 25. ;)

Yes,but that is for a reason:they don't have to raise them:that is your job.
You will be more strict with your kids than your parents will be with them.

oh yeah!!! my mom used to punish me for everything, now she puts up with it all and doesn't say a word.
My kids are too young to really be trouble, but my sister has a teenage son who has the sarcastic streak. he says things that I never would have gotten away with!

Yes, but that't what grandparents do. Their child raising days are over.

Yes but that's because they don't have to stress as much about how they are brought up because they have trust in their children's ability to raise them.
