I know the animals for the hours, months and years, but I've always been curious to know the ones for the days- what is the order of these animals, and what are the 16 extra animals?

Thanks Tasha- but I think there is something in this... I saw a list of them in a translation of an old Chinese book.

Plus, ancient China did use a lunar calender! If the hours matter and the months matter, I feel sure the days must have some significance.

The 28 lunar mansions...28 is the number in the lunar month, as well as the sectioning of the constellation sky into four palaces. (as you said, the number 30 is not used...the ancients used the lunar 28 day system).

constellations...a total of 28 宿 (xiu), each xiu has an animal pertaining to it, and is also used to represent each day.

Eastern palace (qing dragon)
1. The Great Horn - Smooth Dragon
2. The Neck - Dragon
3. The Foundation - Marten
4. The Shop - Rabbit
5. The Heart - Fox
7. The Tail - Tiger
8. The Winnowing Basket - Leopard

Northern palace (dark warrior, dark turtle)
9. Southern Ladle or Dipper - Unicorn
10. The Draft Oxen - Ox
11. The Void - Rat
12. The Danger - Swallow
13. The Home Hearth - Pig
14. The Eastern Wall - Porcupine

Western palace (white tiger)
15. The Astride - Wolf
16. The Bond or Mound - Dog
17. The Stomach - Pheasant
18. Pleiades - None noted.
19. The Net - Crow
20. The Turtles Beak - Monkey
21. Orion - Ape

Southern palace (vermillion pheonix)
22. The Eastern Well - Tapir
23. The Ghostly Carriage - Sheep
24. The Willow - Buck
25. The Bird - Horse
26. The Drawn Bow - Deer
27. The Wings - Snake
28. The Running Board - Worm

also there are a number of different schools of thought on it.

the books that they use in China are very complicated...and they do have it for the days...most definitely.

There are only 12 animals used in Chinese. If you know them, then you already know the answer you seek. The use of the word astrology seems odd. Perhaps that is the only usage you understand for these animals, or perhaps it is the only usage that you care about. Anyway, think base 60. A complete cycle is 2 lunar months, not 1.

Hi! I'm Chinese lol and we don't have them for the days. This is because, and think hard, there are seven days in a week. And if the days were fixed to 30 in a month then we might have but the whole of Chinese Astrology is a timekeeping device first and foremost, and it revolves around 6 and 12. And also, again because it is a timekeeping device, things don't really change from day to day- they change over the hours in the day, and over the month in which the days occur. In love and light, Tasha x
