I agree with you, James. And thank you for supporting the women of the U.S.A. in the freedom of choices in dress.

The world isn't going nuts, just the media.
Millions of women, wore veils and Islamic headgear and shouted out the Shah and his family from Iran, and hounded them into exile in the 70's and happily declared that the exiled Ayatollah Khomeini was the true leader. Within a few months, televisions were thrown out with the bathwater, and this was stridently supported by the women.
So, the people of Iran have got the government that they wanted and the type of rules that they want, praise be democracy.
BTW, Iraq was a pretty much secular and un-Islamic country till Good old George Bush decided to import some American freedom there, and from what i read, hear, and watch on TV, women are being bundled into veils there as well, and not given jobs any-more.
isn't that ALSO very barbaric...???

(*sigh*) Well, I'm relatively certain the world is already nuts and has been for awhile.
As to the Islamic issue, they had to know they were risking arrest when they did it. Iran isn't exactly known as a hotbed of liberal religion or politics (one and the same there). So, I'm guessing they were making a statement.
I was offered a job once in the Middle East. Great pay. However, I'm not exactly the type to conform well, so I figured it was best if I say "thanks, but no".
I do agree if they want to be considered as something other than a back water, third world country, then they're going to need to develop tolerance. I figure that won't happen in my lifetime.

Religion is the ultimate fight starter . ask a man his religion tell him one he wont like and bingo hatred. this has been the rule since the days when people had no idea about the ways of the universe but had plenty if time to write tales. As for Iran being wrong ,yes they are but, its no different from the Spanish inquisition Hitler and co . They re just out of memory so the little things Iran does is nothing to the scale of the fore mentioned. prove all religion wrong and everyone will fight about who is the wrongest. Just get used to it

There are also laws in the Western world about 'indecent exposure' which are open to opinion, our idea of indecent exposure and those of the Muslims are a mile apart.
Just as a matter of interest when I was working in Saudi I noticed a group of religious police prowling around the town, I watched their antics, I saw them spray the bare legs of Western women because their skirts were too short, these were English and American women. Not a' peep' from their husbands, and why not ? why didnt they complain there? because they would end up in jail, is why not.
If you don't like their laws, don't go there.
If you are into the idea of your wife or daughter showing their 'thongs' off in the street, stay where you are.
It is not part of the Muslim law that women wear black from head to toe, along with face masks, women choose to wear that outfit, all the Koran says is that women should cover their unseen parts, in other words a modicum of decorum is called for.
I am not Muslim, I am atheist , I am also into 'leering' at tiny mini skirts and thongs, but not if my daughter or wife was wearing that outfit in public!!
I will however continue to leer at your kins outfits.
Hope this helps?????

Yes James the world is going nuts. In these Islamic countries the women are treated as second class citizens and they shouldn't be it's wrong.

The world has been nuts for years and years.
Burning heretics and drowning witches makes the Islamic dress code seem quite trivial.
OK that was in previous centuries, but exorcising evil spirits by flogging and torture is still practised.
We allow horses to crap in the streets, we ban smoking but encourage gambling and drinking, we watch fame-seeking inadequates debasing themselves in big Brother and call it entertainment.
Who are we to criticise anyone?
And yes, I also think the Isalmic dress code is barmy, as is that of the Ultra-Orthodox Jew, the Amish and the Burberry clad chav. But then I don't suppose they would rate my Middle England outfits!

i dont think the world is going nuts .. i just think people in general are nuts ... it is part of their life and religion ... before we (usa) took out the Taliban women had to be dressed from head to toe an only their eyes could be seen ... and most of the time the women would wear sheer covers over their eyes to give extra protection to themselves .... it is not right or any where near freedom to opress those people in such a way ... but it is their way of life ... it would be like someone coming into your house and saying you CANNOT do this thing you have done for x amt of years and this is the way it will be from now on ... it is not our business to try and police / big brother the entire world ... we have our own issues to deal with and the other places are not commin over here to fix it for us ... so why should we get into their business .... it is THEIR WAY OF LIFE we do not have to agree w/ it like they dont agree w/ the way we live ...

It is only as bad as open pornography on the net.
I am against women being treated badly under Islam and I am
against bare bums in gay mardi gras. There is horror in both societies. The world needs women in Islam treated properly
and people in parades to be dressed to a decent standard.
