For 5 years I worked in a nursing home, caring for the elderly, and I became so down trodden and depressed over the fact that this was where they came to await death that I had to leave. I*m coming up on my 90th day at a production line job...very fast paced....quite different experience....I work in the engine assembly line....as the *heads* come down the conveyor belt I have approx. 79 seconds to put in 6 lost motion pins, two 28 ml washers w/bolts, one 16ml washer w/bolt, a crank stay sensor bracket, 4 dowel pins, front and rear power steering brackers, a bead of sealent to hold the rocker arm(next process) in, and two 8x28 inch studs....(we do 325 engines per 8 hour shift)mudane...it can be, but what the heck...the pay is $3 more an hour than what I made at the nursing home. There is like 20 processes to completely build an engine, and over time it is required that we learn at least 4 of them. This way we can break the monotony of doing one process. Here there is room for advancement...there is team leaders, team managers, etc...and other departments as well. The only advancing at the nursing home was if you elected to become a nurse, and I make more at this job than most of the lpn*s there.

The work is okay, but I am over the corporate cesspool. The level of nonsense makes a simple job 10 times more difficult than it really is. I'm a business systems analyst...I gave up programming a few years ago, and can't say I miss it.

What's an IT job?? I'm curious. I've never heard of one before. Is it a specialty job, can anyone do it; does it pay well. How many hours a day do you have to
work. Are there benefits with the job: medical, dental, pension plan, paid up
RRSP for $50,000 a year? I'm not greedy. If not; I'm not interested.

Not in IT--I am in the medical field. I do like it, though sometimes it is not what it was cracked up to be. But, hey, ya gotta do something, right?
