My hubby and I go to the base Chaplain (basically a military pastor). We go because we need to learn some better communication. Only seen him a couple times so I don't know yet if it'll help us. But a pastor or church leader is free. Basically he just talks to us, sees what we each think of certain subjects, then helps us see things a different way.

People are go to counseling for anything that is bothering them. A lot of times they are just there to listen; many people just need a sounding board, they can also give unbiased opinions and/or advise. What I mean is that they don't know you, your friends, your family, or your co-workers so if they have an opinion or advise to give it is completely for your benefit and no one else. As far as expensive if you have insurance it is not it would be your copay; however, if you don't yes they are very expensive. Counseling only works if you are honest no matter how mean, bad, or awful you think it is you have to own up to it if you don't you are wasting your money.

People go to counselling for certain reasons, i needed to see one myself for depression. Sometimes life, children, or marriage problems can become too much and it is just very comforting to talk out your problems to someone who is indifferent to you and cannot judge you. It can be a life changing experience to some individuals. Counselling, along with self-help motivational dvd's or books can really help. Last time I checked the price, it was A$75 an hour.

I think they are very expensitve. They can be £100 an hour.
Councilings are for everything - stress, worries, family, abusememnts, anything that worries you and you need to talk someone out of your family that can give you help by not having anything to do with your private life but being paid in return. They are better than family who may make things more complicating, since they see a picture from only a tannel vision. A counciler sees you as a third person, and his understanding and general education of psychology can lead you to the right path. Good luck

**The reasons are many: they see therapists for marital problems, depression, addiction, mental illness issues, eating disorders, suicidal thinking, relationship building, etc
** It helps most everyone in different ways, but the keys are to assist people to learn to problems solve, negotiate conflict, communicate needs, improve self esteem, manage their emotions and traumatic experiences, etc.
**Does it really help- yes and no! Those that don't get better don't for various reasons such as inability to stop addictive behavior, environment does not support their efforts, they're not committed to change. Other reasons may be b/c therapist is poor/weak and nor useful or b/c one spouse will not stop his/her affair.
** are they expensive-- it depends, if you see a regular counselor it can cost between $45-80, social worker- 50-80, psychologist- 80-150; psychiatrist- 90-200. Most of us use a sliding fee scale based on the clients/patients ability to pay. Insurance covers most of it

basicly as long as you are a human with too much going on up in your head you tend to visit them. secondly they help you express your problems and assist you with solutions or answers . they aren't that expensive depending on whether they are commercial or gov run. lastly, it helps if you listen good, and clap when they tell you to.
