I think John Camponera is hilarious... mostly his goofy voice and delivery... I am really into Lewis Black right now... I've heard two of his HBO specials... funny, funny stuff; nearly wet my pants... I saw Jim Carrey live in New Westminster, BC back in 1992, and he was really physical and funny. I also saw Billy Connolly live, the Scottish actor/comedian... he is just a great storyteller.

Yes... George Carlin is great... his routine "Ice box man" is classic... "could be meat, could be cake"... and when he says that reseachers have discovered that saliva causes stomach cancer, but only when swallowed in small amounts over a long period of time..... and Steven Wright... his deadpan delivery kills me...

I would have to say Eddie Izzard. I think hes hilarious! I've never seen a famous one live but I've seen amateurs perform at a comedy club several times before. Most of them were really good!
(For the answerer above me, it's Bill Engvall).

Billy Connolly and Jim Carey would be right up there. You mentioned a few others that I will have to check out.

Lewis Black is great, but my all-time favorite is George Carlin...and I haven't gotten the chance to see any of my favorites live, unfortunately.

Margaret Cho is pretty damn funny.
We saw Margaret Cho stand-up twice in Seattle and Ellen DeGeneres in Seattle right before her show started up. Both were fabulous!

I've seen Gallager( the one who always smashed the watermelon at the end of his show ) and the "Here's Your Sign" guy and for the life of me, at this time, his name has escaped me. Neither of them is my favorite stand-up comedians, though. They just happened to be near Muncie and Indianapolis and I was near there at that time. I really l like Chris Rock and Dave Chapelle as stand-ups.
Edit: Thanks to the girl below me, that would have drove me nuts all night. Yes, it is Bill Engvall.

I saw Ron White recently he is the best. Saw Morey Amsterdam years ago and he was just as funny as he was on the Dick Van Dyke show.

Bill Hicks was awesome. I never got to see him live, unfortunately, but I love his stuff.
I've seen a few live, but my favourites were Jack Dee and Rob Newman, and Billy Conolly.

Ellen Degeneres...her "Taste This" show was hystrerical! If you have Limewire or another program like it, try downloading the file entitled "Children" and "Birds Mating". They are a riot!
