This is such a delicate subject , i think each case has to be judged individually.

wow - you've really opened a can of worms asking this question ! it's one of those debates that bring out strong emotions in people...... personally i don't think i fall into either the 'for' or the 'against' category.... i think something like abortion isn't one of those black or white subjects - there are so many grey areas...... for example, my sister was 14 years old when she got raped.... thankfully she didn't contract any diseases or fall pregnant, but what should she have done if she had found that she was pregnant ? would a traumatised 14 year old school girl have been able to carry and then give birth to the child of the man who raped her ??? personally, i find that idea horrifying... she was only a child herself..... i am not pro abortion, infact i fell pregnant by accident, and i was going through a very difficult time in my life (nervous breakdown - lot of health problems), but i chose to keep my baby as i could not face aborting it.... but there would have been circumstances where i would have chosen to have an abortion.... for example - if i had been raped, or if the baby was shown to have such severe deformities that it made it impossible for that child to have any quality of life outside of the womb.
i think that women should be allowed the right to have an abortion, but it should be carried out after the woman has had proper counselling and advice - and should only be done up until about week 12 of the pregnancy. but that is MY opinion - and i respect that others may feel differently.

Depends on the situation. (In Ireland at the moment there is a debate about a 17 year old girl who is pregnant and she has been told that her baby will be born with no brain and only half a head.) There is no abortion in Ireland so she wants to travel to Britain and they wont let her because she is under the care of the health board. They say the baby will live for at most 3 days. I think she should be allowed to abort in that circumstance.

Statements like it's murder do nothing to ease the situation, for many people abortion is a difficult decision that can tear them apart. These ignorant responces simply make the persons emotional state more confused at a time when they need emotional stability. Abortion is a deeply personal decision and may be right for one person but wrong for another.
Murder is a completely different situation and the difference would be obvious if someone you cared for had been murdered. Geese, the only time I rant and use the word hate is when these idiots use the term murder for abortion. You close minded arrogant, ignorant people. I hate you. Support people struggling with this decision, don't chastise them.
Sorry for the rant. I am neither for or against abortion, I think people make their own decision based on their own understanding of their situation.

Against, these are the most vulnerable in our society.
We don't have capital punishment but we do have abortion.
The early embryo prior to implantation is a small group of cells that have not specialized, many are lost at this stage without the potential mother being aware. However, to argue that any period after implantation is ok because it's not yet human, is simply finding a way to justify abortion. People don't usually know or suspect before four weeks have past.
To allow abortion just because the unborn is unlikely to survive outside the womb is abominable. Who would have survived without their parents or someone else to care for them, before the age of, say ten? What age is it possible to survive without someone to care for you? Would euthanasia be the right way of taking care of dependent people that nobody wants to help? The ancient greeks and Romans used to expose their unwanted children to the elements and wild animals. Should we do that? How far have we come from this, it still happens in China to unwanted girls. Perhaps we should do away with old peoples homes by use of euthanasia? I personally don't think so. That is going down the road the Nazis took.

Well....I cant talk on the subject as Ive had 2... but if i didn't the babies would've been living a life that would've only lasted approx 2 days....It was the hardest thing I had to do. I was young as I was only 18 at the time of the first one and 20 for the second. I couldn't look at my 'partner at the time' for ages and I think that it was these situations that eventually broke up our relationship. I couldn't decide whether to have the babies, start loving them and then they die so I can say I 'did' have children or to save them a crap life of pain and me the pain of out living my children.....it was the toughest decision of my life that still haunts me to this day. x x x (sorry to write so much but just had to say my part on this subject)

I don't think you can truly have an opinion on the subject until it affects your life in some way.
It's a choice that some choose to take for whatever reasons but for them their reasons are right and we shouldn't take that away from them and make them feel worse than they probably already do.
No one makes the decision to have an abortion lightly and it's not something you just get over either.

I think it depends on the situation. I dont agree with the cut off time of 20 weeks. A baby is fully formed then etc.. However I do agree that if the baby has little chance of survival physically or mentally then it should be aborted at the parents and medical perfessionals decision. If it will have no quality of life and always depend on someone then its not fair.
On saying that though. I am for it in the case of rape. I am also for it in the case of stupidity. People who get pregant purly because they have been neglectful shouldnt be made to keep the baby. They clearly are not capable of looking after a child and will make pants parents..

I am pro-choice. While I don't think that it should be the primary method of birth control, I don't think that any woman should be forced to accept such a huge change in her life. The pro-life lobby simply decides that the life of the mother isn't worth enough to preserve. Incest, rape, abusive relationships, immaturity, birth defects- there are so many reasons, and it is cruel to force that on anyone. Adoption is not always an option, and there are women and girls whose lives would be in danger if anyone knew they were pregnant. It is just wrong to dictate how a someone's life should be led, and place a value on the life of one person over another. It is her life, her choice, not theirs.
