I received a lot of greif from people in the military on this question and thought more about it. Is the American public aware of the system being used? If paying for families to move oversea and than paying for housing, schools, daycare and all that goes with supporting a family in another country is cost effective, as people have stated. Than why aren't there ads on TV, magazines and newspapers promoting this as a tool to get more people to enlist? Such as join the Army and we will send you and your family to another country, pay for the move and provide schooling, daycare, etc. and pay for housing as well. The housing being paid for in Japan is much better than the local housing, local people can afford. This is said because it was stated the USA is only paying rents as high as the local rents are, not true here. I live here and see it. There is something wrong with the way this whole thing is working with our tax dollars and no one seems to care. Has anyone ever seen such an ad?

Look, it's like this; our people need safe and comfortable living conditions at all costs. If the country where they're stationed does not have that, tough! Working in the military is a great responsibility, and our people need every accommodation available to function at their best.
Maybe it's not published for the simple fact that not everyone would understand that people who put their lives and their family's' lives on the line NEED good accommodations.

I don't see a need to have your family with you when stationed overseas, either. If these bases are in danger of being targets, why put families there. Are there bases like these you talk about in Iraq too? Also, who has determined that it is cost effective ? The military or the government. If it is cost effective why are we paying higher rent than local people pay for? I have never seen an ad for these sort of benefits and I did not know we were paying for such things to start with. There should be an audit done and see just how and why money is being spent for these things. I never knew we were moving families overseas and I don't agree that it helps keep divorce rate down, plenty of men have served overseas and have been happily married for many years, maybe because they were apart. I liked to know more about why we are doing this moving of families and why we are paying rent for housing for the military base that is suppose to be self sufficient, maybe we should look into that also.

I have not seen this article you speak of but when our troops are stationed overseas I don't have a problem with this because it is better to keep families together whenever possible, the soldiers don't have to worry about their families while they are abroad. I'm sure you have heard about some of the troops while away-and then return home to find their wives/husbands divorcing them for someone else. I say it's money well spent.

it incredibly is the federal government we are talking approximately, no longer a private corporation. Do you already understand how plenty that could value the taxpayers? they do no longer pay for transportation of your loved ones on your consumer-friendly graduation or your education graduation they are no longer going to be paying for your loved ones to return and pass to you. they do no longer pay for spouses/toddlers to return pass to you the two so why could they pay for oldsters or siblings? they might keep their funds, you are able to keep yours and you preserve checking the airlines considering you may get a reliable deal on tickets each so often.
