It doesn't risk your ability to conceive in the future. It's not three months of work, and it's not a painful surgery. Oh, and it's not just one egg, it's about 18 or so, whatever you produce during one cycle. Before you do this, you should get more information. If you decide to be a donor, and you weren't donating to someone specifically, then your information would be put into a book and some parents might choose you. Then you would go on a cycle of medications, including some that have to be injected daily. You'd have to go in for regular ultrasounds, sometimes more than once a week. At the end of a month or so, they would take the eggs out... that involves giving you some anesthesia so you wouldn't remember anything (twilight sleep), and it would be perhaps an hour of your time. It doesn't hurt much: having a lot of eggs makes you feel a bit bloated and that's it. So, it's not a lot of work, it's a couple of minutes a day for the medication and some time for the ultrasound. It's not all that painful. There aren't a lot of complications. The people who get donated eggs want to experience pregnancy and have their child grow inside the woman, and perhaps have it be the husband's genetic child. For a lot of people, that seems a lot less risky than adopting an unknown child. And you can go on to have regular pregnancies. Some people also get paid to donate eggs, sometimes thousands of dollars, but you have to be chosen, which means you have to have something to offer, like good looks, height, athletic ability or brains. But, if you are a high school graduate between 18 and 30, at least you can try and see if anyone picks you. You need a lot more education on it, first.

Hi there,
Looks like "Katherine," the chick above me, has given you the best informed answer so far.
I've been an egg donor and didn't find it painful. I sure don't remember the "surgery" at all!
I think that if you're the kind of person who is willing AND able to donate, you ought to. Kind of like donating blood....er, SORT of. :) There are women out there that are trying EVERYTHING to get pregnant, and they need somebody like us to help them out. Look into it---see if you even qualify. I went through a LOT of tests before I was even considered, so prepare for that.

No it's not a good thing to do.
Those are my valuable eggs. If they can't have kids, they can adopt.
I'm not going through some painfull process such as this just to give MY eggs to someone else.

I would advise against giving away your eggs, the cons outweigh the pros, besides wouldnt you want some monetary gain for doing that? youre essentially giving away a child.
