Hey there milly.

Becoming a veterinarian requires a few things. I'll try to break this down as best as I can and provide you with some informational sites.

First off you'd be going to school for a total of 8 years (unless you decide to do a specialty field which would require more school time).

You'll want to obtain a bachelor's degree with a scientific or biological major, and hold a GPA of at least 3.75 to help beat the curve.

Because there are only 28 veterinary schools in the United States, it's imperative that you do very well in your studies and obtain plenty of volunteer, and shelter work during your first few years in school.

After graduation, you can then apply to graduate (veterinary) school, which will again be another 4 years of study.

Before actually becoming a DVM, you will have to pass the national and state exams after graduation to obtain your license.

You go to Vet school for a number of years and it is a much harder job than that of a Doctor. Your patients can't tell you where it hurts except sometime by biting you because you hit a sore spot.

But it has to be one of the most amazing jobs. If I was young enough to re-think my career I would become a vet. The main reason being that, from my experience, pets are much more appreciative of what you do for them than people.

You get VERY good grades in High School and get accepted to a good college. In college you take courses that deal with animals. You get EXTREMELY good grades in college and after 4 years, you graduate with a Bachelor's degree. Then, if you are lucky, you get accepted to a Vet School and you go to school for 4 more years.

It is actually harder to get into Vet School than into Medical School because there are fewer Vet Schools.
