I agree with the above poster...it happens ALL of the time! I've never seen anything bad happen because someone drank (or got drunk even) before they knew that they were pregnant.
Now, you must stop...during your pregnancy but you will be okay...

You'll be ok, as long as you dont use alcohol (or at least not more than 1 or 2 units a week) throughout the rest of the pregnancy! Lots of people do things before they find out their pregnant and go on to have perfectly normal pregnancies and babies!

There is a chance the baby could be affected even with one drink throughout the pregnancy. Best bet is to inform the doctor that you did drink and ask what they can do to see if it affected the baby in any way. It may not have been enough to effect you this time. But in times to come, it may. Normally the doctor does ask if you have had alcohol or drugs. It depends how much you were drinking in the 8 weeks after you conceived.

The fact that you're considering stopping drinking is good, but any alcohol, no matter how little, is bad for a developing baby. However, what's done is done and as long as you stop drinking completely after realizing you're pregnant, you will most likely be fine. If you don't, your baby is likely to acquire Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

There is no definate answer on this. The truth is ONE alcoholic beverage can cause birth defects, as well as either Fetal Alcohol Effect, or worse Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.
Your baby may luck out, or it may not.
Its important to tell your doctor, and not to lie about how much you consumed. Its also very important to not drink alcohol again during your pregnancy.
Just because one persons baby is healthy at birth after drinking does not mean your baby will be healthy.
Also, FAE and FAS cannot typically be determined immediately. They are behavioral based.

if youve continued to drink throughout your pregnancy then YES, your baby could have a horrible condition called FAS (fetal alcohol syndrome)
if you havent then i dont think that its something to lose sleep over, most women dont even know that they are pregnant until after 8 weeks.
to be sure ask your doctor, they can do what is called a level 2 ultrasound, where they check all organs to make sure everything looks normal, and more extensive tests. but honestly i dont think they will give it that much thought.

By the time you miss your period you are about 4-5 weeks PG. and at 8 weeks u are u are over half way through your 1st trimester, which is the most crucial time in your pregnancy's development. So if u even THINK you are pregnant you shouldn't drink.

A few drinks in the early stages wont do any harm so dont beat yourself up about it. Just look after yourself from now on and you will be fine.

I drank every night for about a two months, and then found out that I was pregnant. I was sooo freaked out. My doctor told me not to worry about it. What was done was done. Long term use is much worse, if I would have drank through the whole pregnancy or even half of it, then it might have effected him, but it didn't. He was a 8lb 15oz baby, perfectly healthy, he is 18 months now, and he is sooo smart! You will be fine...oh and congratulations!
