No, they usually would wait a bit longer. They can go by the date of your last period, plus a physical exam. Good luck.

Congratulations! I went to the doctor today actually for my first prenatal visit. I thought I was only about 4-5 weeks along due to irregularity in my periods. However, the doctor went ahead and ordered an ultra sound because he felt I could have been 10 weeks. We found out I was 8 weeks pregnant from the ultrasound. So to answer your question- YES they do. They want to come as close to an accurate due date as possible and this way they also look at all your female organs too. (The doctor wanted them to check my position of my uterus, etc). They measured the baby on the ultrasound and it determined the date. I was able to see the shape of the baby, the top and bottom. They also told me which way the baby was facing in relation to my body and I heard the heartbeat. I now have 3 pictures of my baby. Good Luck at your doctors visit!

The first ultrasound is done at 18 weeks and the doctors count that from the end of you last period.

the doctor will more likely to go by your last period. and it also depends on if you have regular periods. When i went in for my first app. the doc guessed i was about 9 weeks and he was already able to hear a heartbeat. So he ordered an u/s just to see how far along i actually was. There was even a point that my tummy was getting big pretty fast. So he had another u/s ordered. But if you really concerned you can always talk to your doctor.

Depends on the Dr. My Dr. did an ultrasound on the first appointment. Usually Dr.s will do another one at about 20 weeks to check the baby's development and possibly the sex. I think my Dr. liked doing ultrasounds I think I had about 7 throughout the pregnancy, and I had no problems.

A lot of women don't remember the day their last period started before they got pregnant, so the doctor will normally order an ultra sound after the first visit to pinpoint the due date.

at this point i dont think they wil do an ultrasound they go off last period, you will probably get your first ultrasound when they think you are 10 weeks pregnant, because before then there is nothing to see in the ultrasound!!
congrats..good luck!!

It's not likely that you will have one this early. They will probably go by the first day of your last period. I didn't have my first ultrasound until I was 11 weeks. Good luck and congrats!

I never had a ultrasound on my first visit. They went with my last period and the exam. Congrats and good luck with your pregnancy.

my dr didnt do one until 18 wks all she did was a urine test in the office and blood work the first visit. Those two alone can prove if you are pregnant. She did try to listen for a heartbeat but sometimes it can be hard to find that early.
