In my opinion USA basically pays Israel to be the "Watchdog" of the Middle East. This is America's way of trying to keep the Arab states in check.
I personally don't think we should continue to support Israel with as much as we do now. I agree for some support but not in amounts this massive.
The problem with the U.S. is we seem to put more value on others than we put on ourselves. We should take a long, hard look at the USA today... homelessness, hunger, education, low wages, high cost of living, etc...... charity begins at home.... or it's supposed to
For more than 30 years, Israel had been the largest recipient of U.S. foreign aid. Since 1985 Jerusalem has received about $3 billion in military and economic aid each year from Washington. U.S. aid accounts for more than 20% of Israel's total defense budget.
Over the past decade, the United States has transferred more than $17 billion in military aid to this country of just under 7 million people.
During the Bush administration, from 2001 to 2005, Israel received $10.5 billion in Foreign Military Financing—the Pentagon's biggest military aid program—and $6.3 billion in U.S. arms deliveries. The aid figure is larger than the arms transfer figure because it includes financing for major arms agreements for which the equipment has yet to be fully delivered. The most prominent of these deals is a $4.5 billion sale of 102 Lockheed Martin F-16s to Israel.

i know your suggestion approximately New Orleans. If america spent as lots time rebuilding its infrastructure, which contain levees and seawalls, because it does interfering in different countries' organisation, what a staggering united states we'd have. somewhat, america spends greater on its obese protection stress funds than all the different countries of the international mixed. As for Israel, one has to recollect: america isn't fascinated in peace interior the middle East. we could like the middle East to stay in chaos because it makes it lots greater handy for us to dictate coverage and control the controversy of matters. in any different case, we'd be tense that Israel end murdering such particularly some Palestinians.

Yes all of the money Washington gets to spend is from taxes and royalties supposed to be collected on such things a minerals and oil.
But hey they are doing none of this right.
I can go into my opinion even more indepth and you would be terrified for tomorrow. So I will leave you with just this. Israel and many more countries are getting our tax dollars.

Is this a good idea? Yes and no. They are one of our closest, if not THE closest, allies in the Middle East, but I am beginning to wonder how much of Muslim hatred towards the U.S. is based solely on our unwavering support of this one country. It seems to me, that if we were to spread this wealth out amongst the moderate Arab nations, as well as the $2.7 billion we give Egypt, and offer to help set up basic social programs that we all take for granted; clean water, 24 hour electricity, trash pickup, etc., maybe our image would be greatly enhanced in the mind of the average Middle Easterner.

The United States is the main supporter of Israel because it is the only democratic country in the Middle East. However, the amount is not disclosed due to national security reasons.
