No he hasn't lost his stuff. The reason he is pitching poorly is that the Yankees have had only two save opportunities for him this season. Their wins have been blow outs or been via walk-off home runs. He has not gotten the work he needs to be effective. He needs to work about three times a week to be sharp, and he is working about every five days. Add to that the fact that he always gets off to slow starts, and has NEVER pitched well in non-save situations (like Friday), Mariano is struggling at the moment.
The Yankees bullpen is struggling because they are pitching 4-5 innings EVERY night! They got off to a great start, but they are already burnt out from pitching all those innings every night.
I am laughing at the genius beneath me who suggests Mariano is "pulling a Brad Lidge"! LOL! So after 11 years, he is a head case like Lidge is after Lidge gave up the home run to Pujols in the NLCS in '05? Rivera is just getting hit because of lack of work, Ridge is a mechanical mess. I think that if Mariano were to be struggling like Lidge and lose confidence, he would have done it long before now.
Boston hits Rivera well because they see him so often. The teams play 19 times a year, and the Red Sox are just familiar with him, just as the Yankees hit well against Pedro because they used to face him 4-5 times a year. Pedro was only .500 in his career against the Yankees when pitching for Boston. Maybe Mo needs to start throwing at the Boston hitters the way Pedro and Arroyo threw at the Yankees, just like Matsuzaka did on Sunday night.

No I just think he's off to a slower start. It is rather uncharacteristic of him, but I think he'll rebound. He is without a doubt, one of the (dare we say THE) best closers of all time. He's a definite hall of fame 1st ballot member. I think the Yankees bullpen will not be affected by Mariano's slow start. I think he's still one of the top 5 active closers today. I think the Yankees are (and should) be more worried about their starting pitching. Their starters are all hurt, and the replacements they have called up haven't been spectacular. The Yankees just need to give Rivera some time to settle down. He'll start getting hot soon. They need to get help for their starters before they even think about replacing Mariano Rivera.

Baseball is a game of statistics. Rivera has had stretches like this before, but they weren't at the beginning of the season. His numbers are inflated now, and will average out as the season continues. He hasn't lost anything. Players have just figured him out some, and the Yankees just aren't clicking right now. Give it time.

I wonder if all those two inning saves( when other team's closers are pitching one) that Torre keeps putting on him over the years are finally starting to catch up. He's always been among the elite closers and I hope he bounces back.

It's a mix of not getting any time to work, cause they never need a save, as well as the hype about him possibly leaving NY next year, I think.

You know how good Mo is whenever people freaks out if he blows a save.
