When I left for work this morning, my beta was happy and swimming in his bowl. When I returned this afternoon, my fiance told me that he found the beta on the carpet dead. We don't have any cats or other animals that could have bothered him. Has anyone ever heard of a beta jumping out of their bowl before?

Sarcasm isn't necessary. If you can't answer honestly and nicely, please don't respond to people's questions. I posed a question to receive feedback not smart *** answers.

I've heard accounts where that did happen. My bettas have never done so. I don't like betta bowls, get a small covered aquarium with slow filter flow.

A guy in the link below had his betta jumping.

Absolutely. Mine jumped out of his bowl and died the next day. Try getting a taller bowl and not filling it all the way. Sorry about your fish.

yes. I had one that jumped out of his bowl before. I went to the store and when I got back, he was on the carpet. There was no one else there, so he had to have done it on his own

I have several occasions where my betta fish has jumped out of its tank (but luckily i find the fish in time to save it). There are many reasons for them jumping: water quality, sees food above water level, or just curious of whats out of it's tank.

Bettas are not known as big time jumpers, but it certainly can and does happen. I have lost a few to jumping before as well.

He was pushed, you have a murderer on the loose. Call CSI or better yet Law and Order.

Next time put a screen on the top of the bowl!

I've never have a beta or an alpha. I just wonder, how do you know your "beta was happy"? I thought fishes were not particularly good at facial expressions...
