it's not the Iraqi's fault. Look who created this illegal war. I don't think American tax payers should pay for this war I think Bush and his supporters should pay the debt. Then maybe a leader will think twice before having a war for their own agenda.
I truely feel for the Iraqi people, they have lost so much. If we're truely their friend we would show compassion and help them as much as we can..... not kill and rape innocent victims, and tear homes apart... it's no wonder they resent our presence there so much.
God Bless Iraq and God Bless America

Politics is a dirty business. The US may spend $124 billion on Iraq, but what they get back in the long run may be worth much more than that, as the matter of fact if the US gets less than they are spending (in a long run) they would never get envolve in situations like this one. Some ways they might get their money back is through Iraqi vast oil reserves, in short term destablising middle east may pay off by selling American made arms and fighter jets to countries in that region, placing a popet government in Iraq that will be simmilar to what we see in Soudi Arabia, more control over the world's oil reserves, etc..............As you all already know nothing is for free in this world. To answer your question - It is after all the American military with their presence of gun fire, mortar attacks, etc, that the Iraqi streets, variation of buildings, homes and lives are in need of repair. America rebuilt Japan after they attack us first in Pearl Harbor. So it doesn't surprise me that America is doing it again. America is doing this more so to keep the Iraqi people on her side, so to speak.
But I have read some of the other answers as well as your $ value of estimation... And the real $ numbers were mentioned just the other day by a Bush supporter on the news. Bush, as he said, has cost this country 9 trillion dollars in debts. And a total of 50 trillion in all of debt to the taxpayers. He continued to say that the young generation will be the ones paying this for the rest of their lifetime if there are no cut-backs on the war, attention brought back to this country, and reforms of various government programs.

The Iraqi people want us to leave. The fact that the puppet government Bush set up says what he tells them too isn't much of an arguement.
The Iraqi people don't owe us a dime--WE OWE them reparations sufficient to repair the econoic and infrastructure destruction we've caused.

oil. thats the reason for it all. if it wasnt for that, hussain would still be in power, and those countries would still be killing themselves like they have since recorded history. we stepped in, because of oil, and 911 happened. im sure theres other things going on that we dont know about or ever will. kindness and the us dont gel. there are other countries far worse off than the middle eastern ones, but if they have no oil, they are screwed. no help from the us if theres no gain financially. this country is so money hungry and corrupt in all levels, its unreal. ironic, but this is the reason this land was confiscated in the first place.

The don't pay a penny because they didn't ask or make the United States go in there! Make Bush pay it by working his miserable and greedy butt! He is the one that got us into it, and needs to pay for it!

no one ask US to come into Iraq..they basically came in on their own accord.More like they ARE the real terrorist.
So if they come and stay..why should the Iraqis pay a single cent? WMDs are nowhere to be found. Saddam had been hang..so were all his cronies..
Why are the US still there if not for the untraded Iraqis oil? I'm so glad the Dem are againsts these beastly acts. I wonder if Bush could ever be tried? I think he shld. He's a terrorist too

Hi Dizzy, you aren't looking at complete set of numbers:)
124billion US debt is nothing. You aren't looking at the amount of money you can make like our dear Prez and Vice Prez is doing for themselves and all their friends.
Exxon Mobil + Chevron + ConocoPhillips = $771 billion fourth qtr revenue.
Pissed off citizens or money? you decide. I know its wrong, so i don't buy gas from the big three.. nor endorse the war.

I believe the rational is that if we spread democracy around the world, we are less likely to have to deal with lunatic dictatorships and virulent ideologies.
I guess like everything else, freedom isn't free.

Why the heck did US go there in the first place? Now when we are there, we better finish the job. Why would Iraqis pay for the mess WE have created? They didn't invite us.
